Bronze signs... at Margaux

Before reaching Bordeaux, the pilgrims walk through a little town that doesn't need any advertising. Everyone knows Margaux above all Château Margaux, which has been making excellent wines... for centuries.

The English Prime Minister, sir Robert Walpole, is an exemple out of a long list of the favour the English elite has for the Bordeaux wines : circa 1730 "he buys 4 barrels of Margaux every three months, that he sometimes forgets to pay !"

At Margaux, around 1 400 inhabitants, the Association des Amis de saint Jacques de Compostelle en Aquitaine  got from the city council three bronze marks which show the direction to Santiago. As a sign of welcome, of recognition, an to say good bye.

If the Paris streets were equipped in the same proportion with the number of inhabitants, you would see 4285 marks on the ground !

Another example at Tours, on the same Paris way.

15 to 20 years are requested to allow the wine before its tastes and flavours fully develop. Would the pilgrims be of the same kind  ? It takes a while  before  he improves himself...

on the way.

Tiziana Giovanna Emilia Coletti lives in Belgium...

Photo TGE Coletti

She's been back home for 2 months now, and having a hard time to accept her life without the camino...

She sums up her feelings with a few words :

" Ultreia" was on the way, " e sus eia" is for now...

To go on the same mouvement, the same state of mind, Tiziana found that talking with other people about the Way of St James (when they listen to her) gives her a chance to convince newcomers.

Being an Ambassador of the Way of St James everyday is a real sharing experience.

After "Ultreia", after learning in our body and our mind, "e sus eia", is the teaching job.

And who knows, may be the ones who are going after us will teach other people about the Way...

yes, long live SANTIAGO !!!!!!"

Tours is an old and culturally rich city. For centuries and centuries walkers have gone through the town of Tours on their way to Santiago, coming from the north of Europe...

460 000 inhabitants, 23 000 of them are students. Concerts, theatres, shows of all kinds, festivals and renaissance chateaux around, theTouraine Region has a lot to offer !

And the "Tourangeaux" know how to welcome pilgrims :  les Amis de St Jacques en Région Centre, the local non-profit organisation proposed to have bronze signs on their streets. Subsidized by the local Département (county) they had 50 bronze signs fixed on the ground.
